Weekly Address to West Virginians
June 19, 2015

Hi - I'm Senator Capito, and this is my weekly Senate update.

West Virginia scored a major victory in our quest for better broadband this week with the announcement of a new provider for the cell tower in Paw Paw.

This tower will provide service to underserved and disconnected communities in Morgan and surrounding counties. And it will boost business development and improve communications in those areas.

Earlier this year, I initiated the search for a carrier, and I’m very happy that I was able to help make this a reality.

Collaborations like this are exactly what my Capito Connect Plan aims to achieve.

This week I announced the initial dates and locations for my Capito Connect listening tour. My staff will hold sessions throughout West Virginia to hear your feedback and solutions for bringing broadband up to speed.

I also released a guidebook this week with information about federal programs and resources that assist with broadband development.

I encourage all of you to visit my website where you can download the guidebook and find a listening session near you.

Next week, I will be chairing a hearing focused on the impacts of the president’s Clean Power Plan and the resulting consequences for American businesses and families.

During the hearing, we will also discuss the ARENA Act, which I introduced to protect affordable energy and jobs in West Virginia.

As the weekend approaches, I would like to take a moment to wish all of you a Happy West Virginia Day, and also a Happy Father’s Day to all of our dads.
