WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced new Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) awards totaling $663,582 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The funding will benefit West Virginia University’s (WVU) State Fire Training Academy, the Mt. Clare Volunteer Fire Department in Harrison County and the Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department in Lincoln County.

“In order to keep our people and our communities safe, West Virginia’s firefighters must have the training and resources needed to do their job effectively. These grants will support training at WVU’s State Fire Training Academy and boost safety operations at volunteer fire departments in Harrison and Lincoln Counties. Most importantly, these grants will help protect those who work tirelessly to keep us safe,” said Senator Capito.

"Our dedicated firefighters and ‎first responders are on the frontlines of keeping our communities safe each and everyday," Senator Manchin said. "I witnessed their hard work and commitment firsthand from my experience working with the Marion County Volunteer Fire Department. This funding will ensure our firefighters have the resources they need to continue to protect West Virginians in times of need."
